From the rigid prototypes of the 1950s to today’s flexible, intelligent garments, the spacesuit has always been more than an astronaut’s tool. It stands as proof of humanity’s stubborn desire to step where we “shouldn’t” be able – and as the thin boundary between a human life and the vacuum of space.
In a talk by Branko Simonović, an experienced guide to astronomy and the history of astronautics, we’ll revisit the remarkable knowledge and skills behind spacesuit design, testing, and use. We’ll trace how suits have evolved over the decades, the challenges they must overcome, and how closely you can examine one thanks to the spacesuit model on display in the Palace of Science’s permanent exhibition.
Horizons of Astronautics: The Spacesuit is the first chapter in a spacefaring story about people, technologies, and courage – those who have pushed the limits of the possible.
The lecture will be held in Reč Hall. Admission is free, no registration required.
