Mathematics on Guitar Strings

Did you know that behind perfect chords lie numbers, proportions, and patterns? That rhythm can be expressed as a mathematical formula?

Join us for a unique event – “Mathematics on Guitar Strings”, taking place on May 21 at 6 PM in Word Hall – where sound meets science, and music speaks the language of numbers.

Together, we’ll explore why the Pythagoreans believed that numbers are the foundation of everything around us, and how every harmony we hear has a mathematical structure. We’ll also discover how Pythagoras used a simple one-string instrument – the monochord – to study the relationship between tones.

Whether you’re a musician, mathematician, science enthusiast, curious student, or simply someone who loves to think outside the box, this is your chance to find out how Pythagoras and Paco de Lucía can share the same stage.

To top it all off, enjoy a Guitar Art concert and experience what happens when guitar strings are stretched between art and science.

See you there!
