Palace of Science – the Miodrag Kostić Endowment marked one year since opening its doors to the public on 24 December. The anniversary celebration took place in the spirit of open doors: admission was free throughout the day, accompanied by a rich and inspiring programme for all ages.
In just one year, the Palace of Science has established itself as a symbol of a new era of scientific literacy and culture in Serbia. The country’s first centre dedicated to scientific research and science popularisation—also the largest in the region—is housed in an impressive 1924 building and spans more than 5,500 m².
The research wing of the Palace brings together 20 research centres which, in cooperation with the University of Belgrade’s School of Electrical Engineering and Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), have published 90 scientific papers to date and supported the completion of more than 40 undergraduate and master’s theses.
The visitor area features more than 30 interactive exhibits and a planetarium equipped with state-of-the-art technology for a 360-degree immersive visual experience. Over the first year, the Palace of Science hosted more than 100 free events—from expert-guided tours, workshops and lectures to pop-up exhibitions, concerts and e-sports tournaments. More than 100,000 people have already stepped into the world of science right here.
As part of the anniversary programme, the Palace of Science also opened a new pop-up exhibition, “Nobel – Ideas Changing the World,” realised in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade. Arriving shortly after the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony in Stockholm, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity for visitors to explore ideas that have brought the greatest benefit to humankind. Through stories of laureates in physics, chemistry, medicine, economics, literature and peace, visitors can follow the journey from an idea to global recognition—and discover why courage, knowledge and curiosity are universal values.
The Palace of Science continues to invite all generations to explore, discover and dream—in a place where science is not distant or “difficult,” but alive, approachable and inspiring.
See you at the Palace!
