This autumn, Serbia will celebrate Science Fest (Fête de la Science) for the first time. For more than three decades, the festival has been bringing together scientists, educators, researchers, and citizens around the world. To mark the occasion, the Palace of Science will 6. host the festival on October 6 and 7, in cooperation with the French Institute in Serbia, the Institute for Medical Research, the Center for the Promotion of Science, and the Palace of Science.
Programme at the Palace of Science
The central theme of this year’s Science Fest is food, its significance, and its role in contemporary society. Under the slogan Tasteful Science, we will explore a number of questions: Where does the food on your plate come from? Who produced it, and how? And is the price we pay for food also its only cost?
On the first day of the festival, October 6, primary and secondary school students will have the opportunity to spark their curiosity through a series of science workshops and explore the question What Will We Eat Tomorrow?
The second day of the programme, October 7, will focus on practical activities and the exchange of experiences among educators, providing them with tools to engage their students in conversations about the impact of climate change on food production and our eating habits.
In addition, a free pop-up exhibition will be available on both days, exploring the theme Sugar Everywhere: How Much Are We Paying For it? Through scientific data, a historical overview, and an insight into the process of digestion, the exhibition explores how sugar affects our bodies and why it is important to better understand what is actually on our plates.
About Science Fest
Science Fest is a free festival first held in France in 1991, at the initiative of the French Minister for Research and Technology at the time. From the very beginning, its aim has been to make science and research accessible to everyone and encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology. Since then, numerous events have been held every year during the first half of October, ranging from laboratory visits and science cafés to performances combining art and science, as well as interactive workshops that attract more than one million visitors each year.
