Centre for Digitalisation of RTS

The Radio Television of Serbia started its activity in 1958, when the first broadcast and the first address to the audience in front of the screens was sent via a signal to all the citizens of Yugoslavia - from the studio located at the Belgrade Fair. Numerous series, shows and programmes have been broadcast from the now famous building, almost a museum of television, which is still located on the banks of the Sava River in the Belgrade Fair complex. Thanks to the people who have worked in television for all these decades and who have collected and preserved material, machines and equipment, the RTS building at the Belgrade Fair has remained a place that captures the imagination of the public. The cooperation between the RST and the Palace of Science will allow the visitors of the Palace of Science to see the processes of work with some of the most modern machines and working methods in the preservation of archival treasures.

What does the Centre do?

One of the most important treasures of Radio Television of Serbia as a national media house is its audiovisual archive. On the one hand, it is a valuable testimony of all political, social and economic developments in the period from 1958 to the present day, and on the other hand, it is a large collection of drama, documentary, children's, educational, cultural and entertainment television programmes.

The Centre is working on the development of a new digital repository or audiovisual archive that uses artificial intelligence to search, process, access and share content across platforms. This includes all archive material, including broadcasts, archive footage, photographs and other data. The main objective is to preserve cultural heritage and provide access to resources for researchers and professionals in the fields of culture, entertainment and media.
