Design That Lasts: On Sustainability and Circular Material Flows

Dizajn

In a month dedicated to reflecting on planet Earth, one of the key questions is: how do we shape the world around us, and what happens to that world when we stop using it?

Contemporary models of production and consumption are based on a linear principle: take, make, discard. In contrast, the concept of circular design proposes an approach in which materials, resources, and ideas are not depleted, but transformed—continuously returned into use, extending their lifespan.

How can design become a tool for preserving resources rather than exhausting them? In what ways can creativity and innovation contribute to a more sustainable future? And can changing the way we create also change the way we live? The lecture by Prof. Dr. Jelena Matić will be an opportunity to reflect on design as an environmentally responsible practice and a process in which the end of use is not a conclusion, but a point of a new beginning.
