May 2026.
During May, the month in which the Palace of Science raises the issues of diversity, from culture to nature, interested visitors can expect a lecture by Prof. Dr. Ljiljana Tomović (University of Belgrade – Faculty of Biology), who looks at this topic through one of its most sensitive and important layers: biodiversity.
In a world where differences form the basis of life, biodiversity is not only the richness of nature, but also a condition for its survival. In the lecture, we talk about how diversity arises, survives and disappears, how we recognize the reasons for the endangerment of populations of living beings and why it is important to understand biodiversity not as an abstract concept, but as part of the reality that immediately surrounds us. Special attention will be paid to the Red Books, professional and scientific publications that, like a kind of endangerment maps, record species on the verge of extinction and warn us of the consequences that often remain invisible until they become irreversible.
In the spirit of the Palace of Science, the lecture by Prof. Dr. Ljiljana Tomović connects knowledge and experience, facts and questions, opening up space for understanding the diversity of the living world on the Planet as a value that we do not observe from a distance, but as something of which we are a part and for whose preservation we bear responsibility.
Admission to the lecture is free, and registration is not required.
