During this panel discussion, we will try to uncover what mathematics truly is, beyond the myths and prejudices people often build around it.
We will explore how fears related to a scientific discipline emerge, what sustains them, and how they are maintained. How do we, in classrooms, within families, and through institutions dedicated to science communication, work toward building a better image of mathematics? To help us discuss these topics and questions openly, honestly, and without fear, we invite psychology, mathematics, and didactics into the conversation — as well as all of you, whose personal experiences and feelings toward mathematics are equally welcome.
Perhaps mathematics is not the complicated, cold, and unattainable science it is often portrayed to be, but rather a language of patterns, relationships, curiosity, and a way of understanding both the world and our own ways of thinking. Happy May — the Month of Mathematics — to everyone!
Admission is free and registration is not required.
