Video Games in Service of the Past

Archaeology and video games have far more common ground than might appear at first glance. Dr. Jelena Anđelković Grašar from the Archaeological Institute in Belgrade will present the ways archaeologists use gamification and video game mechanics to make archaeology more accessible, interesting, and interactive.

Through practical examples, we will learn how digital reconstructions, virtual reality, and popular games like Minecraft—in which the ancient site of Viminacium will be presented—are used for education, youth engagement, and the popularization of cultural heritage.

The lecture is held as a featured event accompanying the “More Than a Game” exhibition. Its goal is to spark essential discussion: How exactly do games mold our view of history, and where should we draw the line between scholarly fact and artistic license?

The lecture will be held in the Room for Workshops and Seminars Word.
