The exhibition “More Than a Game” at the Miodrag Kostić Endowment – Palace of Science has received a special recognition from the committee of ICOM Serbia, the national committee of the International Council of Museums, an organisation that brings together museums and museum professionals dedicated to the preservation, protection and presentation of cultural and natural heritage.

The recognition was awarded on the occasion of International Museum Day, 18 May, which this year is celebrated under the theme “Museums Uniting a Divided World.” This theme highlights the important role of museums as spaces of encounter, dialogue, understanding and connection between different communities, generations and perspectives.

In this context, the recognition for the exhibition “More Than a Game” affirms the importance of contemporary museum practices that, through interactive experiences, technology and relatable themes, open up space for learning, exchange and a new understanding of the world around us.

The exhibition “More Than a Game,” realised in partnership between the Palace of Science and the organisation Play, explores how video games evolved from arcade and home-console entertainment into one of the most important cultural, social and technological phenomena of today. Visitors to the exhibition can play Space Invaders on an original arcade machine and use AI technology to create their own unique gaming portrait. A special segment of the exhibition is dedicated to the gamification of everyday activities and the ways in which patterns from video games can become tools for learning, personal development and better organisation.

Although video games are often discussed through the lens of negative aspects, the exhibition shows that they are much more than entertainment. Video games have not only followed technological and social changes, but have often driven them — from the development of more powerful graphics cards and faster processors to new models of communication, storytelling and interactive learning.

The special recognition awarded by ICOM Serbia to the Palace of Science therefore confirms that museums and science centres today play an important role in connecting science, culture, technology and society, as well as in creating experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking and dialogue.

The exhibition “More Than a Game” is open to visitors at the Palace of Science until 28 June 2026.
